Sinn Féin tell Taoiseach to grow up21 February, 2008
Responding to yesterday’s charge by Bertie Ahern against Sinn Féin’s Vote No to Lisbon Campaign party National Chairperson and Dublin MEP Mary Lou McDonald said the Taoiseach’s remarks were those of a political leader who’s back is against the wall.
“To date Bertie Ahern, Dermot Ahern and Dick Roche have proffered the Irish people fact less analysis of what a Vote Yes to the Lisbon Treaty actually means for Ireland, Europe and the rest of the world. Why is this? Because Fianna Fáil understands you cannot defend the indefensible, so instead they have chosen to dodge the Lisbondebate reducing their contribution on nearly every occasion to school yard name calling.
“So I ask the Taoiseach to grow up and let’s have a mature robust and intelligent debate on what is the biggest decision the electorate have been asked to make on the European Union since its foundation. The Irish people and indeed the people they elect to represent them should expect more from each other.” CRÍOCH
