Sinn Féin to launch nationwide information campaign against EU Constitution

Sinn  Féin  TD  Aengus  Ó  Snodaigh  will  launch  a nationwide information campaign  against the EU Constitution tomorrow, Thursday 13th at 2pm at the top of Grafton Street next to St. Stephens’ Green Shopping Centre.  He will be  accompanied  by  members  of Ógra Shinn Féin who will be leafleting the public.

Speaking  in  advance  of  the  launch Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:  “An open and honest  debate on the future of the European Union is long overdue and Sinn Féin’s  information  campaign  is  designed  to  encourage such a debate to happen in homes and workplaces throughout the country.

“The  government  need  to stop running away from debates with Sinn Féin on the  future  of  Europe.    They need to engage with the electorate on this issue in a meaningful way.

“But I believe I will not be alone in asking why on earth the government is wasting money on publishing a White Paper on the EU Constitution when it is clear,  from  comments today by the Taoiseach, that they have absolutely no intention  of  holding  a  referendum  anytime soon and when even senior EU
officials  are  stating that there is no future for the Constitution in its
current form.” ENDS
